“Balangay” refers to a variety of traditional boats in the Philippines. These boats were used for trading between the islands, transport and warfare. Karakoa were regularly used for raiding. Paraw, with out-riggers, were used for many tasks including fishing. There is an annual Paraw festival of modern, colourful boats.
